Birdsedge Village Hall is the home of Birsedge Live Music, Keep Fit, Whist Drive, Monday Friends, Pilates classes and the Out of School Club, amongst other organisations. Because so many organisations want to use it we need to expand the hall to make wheelchair accessible entrance and toilets, more space in the main hall, a better kitchen, a small meeting room, storage and more storage. We already have around £36,000 from fundraising over the previous few years and we recently put in an application to the Big Lottery Fund for the remainder of the money required. But since we don't want to rely completely on this (there's lots of competition and a percentage of lottery funding is being drawn towards the olympics) we're fundraising like mad, too. Plan B is to add all the bits on separately, starting with the new entrance hall on the right hand side (i.e. into the small room as it is now) with a wheelchair ramp and a WC for the diasabled!

If you're confused by whether this is Birdsedge or Birds Edge Village Hall - don't worry, it's both. Kirklees now calls the village Birds Edge, but until a few years ago, even the road signs on the A629 disagreed on the spelling. Older residents will still tell you it's Birdsedge and that's good enough for me.

Available for hire at reasonable rates for regular or one-off hires. Premises consists of: Main Hall (15 x 45 feet with a licence for 80 seated or 100 standing); a smaller meeting room; a fully equipped kitchen; male and female toilets. All facilities are on ground level with a single step access. No disabled WC facilities yet, but we're working on it and there are grab-bars in the cubicles - but the corridor to the loo is not wheelchair friendly. (We can arrange for wheelchair users to have access to the chapel loos just up the road.) Heating is by means of overhead radiant electric heaters. Crude but effective.
